All Schools Shut Down As Terrorists Ravage Gombe

All public and private schools in Gombe State have been shut down following yesterday's multiple attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), parents and pupils were turned back by school authorities who said the state government had ordered the closure.

Many people are speculating that the impromptu closure was forced by the Boko Haram attacks.

But the Permanent Secretary, Gombe Government House, Sani Jauro, reportedly denied the rumors, claiming it was a nothing but a “normal mid-term break for students.”

Not many people will believe the 'mid-term break' excuse given that schools have barely spent a month in the current term, following the resumption delays caused by the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) and the Sallah holidays.

It will be recalled that Boko Haram insurgents on Tuesday attacked Nafada and Ashaka towns of the state.

The week before, several people were killed and injured after a bomb exploded at a crowded motor park the state capital.

Nicknamed the 'Jewel in the Savannah', Gombe state has witnessed a number of Boko Haram attacks, including the 2012 bombing of a police station, prison breaks and Christians targeting strikes.
