Origin story

The popular Man of God was born in Ondo State. His father Mr. Olukoya was a Police office while his mother, Mrs. Olukoya, was a trader.

Education

He got his elementary education at St. John's CAC Primary School, Akure. He continued his studies at the St Jude's Primary school in Ebute Metta, Lagos after his family moved.

He later attended the Methodist Boys' High School, in the same state. This was where he met an Indian teacher who  told his class: "Boys if you want to escape poverty, READ YOUR BOOK!" Following this advice helped him become the best graduating student.

He gained admission into the University of Lagos (Unilag) in 1976. There, he studied Microbiology and graduating with a first class degree in 1980.

Olukoya got a scholarship to study Molecular Genetics at the University of Reading, Reading, Berkshire in England. This makes him one of the five popular pastors with PhDs.

Ministry

Pastor Olukoya's ministry started when he gave his life to Christ in secondary school. This led to him eventually establishing the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) in 1989.

The founder of the CAC church, the late Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola is regarded as one of his spiritual mentors. He shared his opinion on Apostle Babalola in the dedication pages of the Prayer Rain and Prayer Passport books writing: "Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola was a minister of God who understood the power of prayer. He was a man mightily used by God to ignite the fire of the first Christian revival in Nigeria in the 1930s. Brother J.A. and his team of aggressive prayer warriors entered forbidden forests, silenced demons that demanded worship and paralyzed deeply rooted, anti-gospel activities.

"Sometimes, beginning from the highest places, they openly disgraced satanic agents, emptied hospitals by the healing power of the Lord Jesus Christ, rendered witchdoctors jobless, and they started the first indigenous Holy Ghost filled church in Nigeria. So far - and we stand to be corrected - none has equaled, let alone surpassed this humble brother in the field of aggressive evangelism in this country."

The two have been married for over 15 years. Their union has been blessed with a son, Elijah Toluwani Olukoya.
