Those who worked from home with little time for meal prep had no issues getting refreshed, thanks to Bolt Food. Bolt released its data for 2021 to show how people moved around cities and their favourite meals.

You know the saying, “Naija no dey carry last?” According to the data released, Nigeria recorded the most trips by one person in Africa with 923 trips. South Africa came second with 908 trips. Nigeria was only behind Azerbaijan and Latvia, with 1,116 and 1,018 trips, respectively. The longest trip in Africa was in Uganda, which was a 513 KM trip. In Nigeria, it was 145.4 KM in Abuja and 134.12 KM in Lagos.

If you think there is no money in Nigeria, think again. According to the data, the driver who got the highest tip got about N10,000. This is probably more than what many people spend on an average trip. But what was the max spent on a single trip? In Nigeria, the highest-paid on a single trip was N19,700.

Bolt’s most popular day in 2021 was the 29th of October in Abuja and the 31st of October in Lagos. What made those days very special for riders is unclear, but they both saw the highest orders. In Abuja, there were over 85 000 trips and over 123 000 in Lagos.

Bolt Food was launched in Lagos in the latter part of 2021, with more disruptions expected from the platform. The user with the most orders made was 287 orders in the period, while another user ordered from 53 different restaurants! If there is something to learn from the food data, many Nigerians are foodies but are not very good fans of vegan dishes.

It is not clear if there was a feast on this day, but the date with the most orders was the 1st of December, with 628 orders. The largest order recorded was about N110,000. The top five food items ordered were ranked, and to no surprise, Jollof Rice with Barbeque Chicken came out top. The second favourite food was Fried Rice with Barbeque Chicken, followed by Fried Plantain. In fourth and fifth place were Stir Fry Spaghetti and Beef Asun, respectively.

If you have always wondered what to order on Bolt Food, now you have ideas!

Having a wonderful trip is often the result of mutual respect between the driver and rider. Some wonderful things happened in Nigeria in 2021. One is the story of a rider in Abuja who accidentally added an extra zero to the amount and sent the driver 100 times more money than his due amount. The honest driver called the rider and sent him back the money immediately.

A rider lost his phone on a Bolt trip. He called, and the driver answered. He had no idea whose it was, so he was happy that the rider called. The driver agreed to a fifty-minute drive to return it.

Bolt’s mission is to build modern and sustainable cities by increasing mobility and access. With ride-hailing and food delivery, Bolt provides better alternatives to owning a vehicle and making sure family and friends are well fed.
