President John Mahama on Wednesday presented to Mrs. Martha Ama Akyeaa Pobee her letters of credence and instrument of office as Ghana's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

She is the first Ghanaian woman to serve as Ghana's representative to the UN, and will be based in New York.
She has replaced Mr. Ken Kanda who retired in March 2015.
President Mahama urged her to work hard.
At a ceremony at the Flagstaff House, the President also asked her to use her position to encourage women in the country to fulfill their dreams.
“You have a distinguished career in the Foreign service and we all noted with admiration your work.
I have personally have interacted with you when you were holding the fort at the mission in South Africa, the efficiency with which you approach your work is not something that we could overlook. Being the first female representative to the UN, you are holding the standard of all Ghanaian women and all Ghanaian women will be looking up to you to distinguish yourself to show that what men can do women can do and even better.”
On her part Ghana’s new permanent representative to the UN promised to work hard.
