COAS says Army investigating alleged killing of Biafra protesters

The Chief of Army Staff, also assured Nigerians that Boko Haram will soon be history.

Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai

You will recall that a 20-year-old apprentice, Chidozie Okafor, was allegedly shot dead on St. Micheal's Road, Aba, Abia state, as military men moved in to check a protest by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Speaking further, Buratai said “We are already investigating it. When such incidents involve the loss of lives we usually conduct an investigation – that is our procedure.”

The COAS also said  “We have our rules of engagement, the troops cannot just open fire.

“You know that the Rules of Engagement provides for the protection of human rights, especially the protection of innocent citizens.

“But in situations that entail the use of fire, the protection of human rights does not apply.

“So when you apply the Rules of Engagement and it is necessary to open fire human rights will not apply.”
