6 things you should know about the AMAA 2015 'Best First Feature Film By A Director'

Gone Too Far” received the award for Best First Feature Film by A Director at the 2015 Africa Movie Awards Academy (AMAA) held at Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

The comedy drama by Destiny Ekaragha follows events that happen in a single day as two brothers raised in different environments meet for the first time in Peckham in south-east London.

1. “Gone Too Far” is Destiny Ekaragha’s first feature film.

2.The award winning film is based on Bola Agbaje’s play with the same name. Agbaje’s play first premiered at the Royal Court Theatre in London. She adapted her play into a film script for the project.

3. After watching Agbaje’s play, Ekaragha told British news website The Guardian, she connected with the story and it resonated with her own experience growing up in south-east London. The director shared she met her 25 year old brother for the first time when she was a teenager.

4. The film was released on October 10, 2014. It first premiered at the 2013 British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival.

5. It was produced by Poisson Rouge Pictures and British Film Institute. It also received funded by the BFI Film Fund.

6. The film stars one of Nigeria’s favourite actors O.C Ukeje. Ukeje plays a leading role alongside British actors including Malachi Kirby, Adelayo Adedayo, Golda John, Shanika Warren-Markland (from Adulthood), Tosin Cole, Michael Maris, Miles Mcdonald, UK comedians Eddie Kadi and KG the Comedian.
