It's official: Final season is just 6 episodes

It's official: the 8th and final season of "Game of Thrones" is just 6 episodes.

Earlier, the HBO’s programming president Casey Bloys, revealed that a decision had not been made regarding the episode count of season eight.

It has now been confirmed that the season which will end the popular HBO fantasy drama, will be four episodes shorter than what fans have been used to for years, and an episode shorter than the penultimate season.

"Game of Thrones" will return for the seventh episode which is also its penultimate in 2017, while the final season will make its debut in 2018.

However, the last season won't be the last fans would hear of Westeros, as HBO recently announced that it has commissioned four different writers to develop spin-offs that will “explore different time periods of George RR Martin’s vast and rich universe”.

Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” is set to premiere July 16, 2017.
