There are various kinds of fibroid; we have fibroid outside the womb, on the walls of the womb and the ones right inside the womb.
Dr Kola Osibote, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Mothers World Care Centre, Gudu, Abuja, says that fibroid has little or no effect on women’s fertility.
Osibote said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said that fibroid could only be a constraint to fertility if located in the womb.
"There are various kinds of fibroid; we have fibroid outside the womb, on the walls of the womb and the ones right inside the womb.
"For fibroid to be a concern, it has to be the one inside the womb.
"The size of the fibroid is also an important factor to look into because some are so little they are called fibroid noodles.
"Fibroid noodles are tiny ones that cannot stop a woman from delivering her baby safely," he said.
Osibote said that a woman could be at risk of carrying the baby safely inside the womb only when the fibroid inside the womb is very big.
He said that fibroid was more of a genetic development that could be treated.
Osibote ,however, advised women of child bearing age to embrace routine health checks to detect fibroid and complications that could lead to infertility.
