Banuso told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota on Monday that early detection of diabetes and other deadly diseases enhanced their control.

NAN reports that the World Diabetes Day (WDD) is celebrated annually on Nov. 14.

The World Diabetes Day was inaugurated in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the World Health Organisation, in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by the disease.

According to him, Nigerians need to watch what they eat, as well as reduce the intake of carbonates into their bodies, to prevent untimely deaths.

“The number of casualities recorded from cases of diabetes and other deadly diseases can be reduced to the barest minimum, if Nigerians can be cautious and regulate what they eat,’’ Banuso said.

The former chief medical director, however, implored Nigerians to do regular exercises and to do a regular sugar test, in order to stay healthy.
