The video that started it all, 'Shako mo' by The Remedies

In 1998, The Remedies announced the arrival of contemporary pop music in Nigeria with their infectious single 'Shako Mo'.

Today we go back to the very beginning. In 1998, the trio of Eddy Remedy, Toni Tetuila and Eedris Abdulkareem collectively known as The Remedies started the renaissance of pop music in Nigeria.

Backed by the music industry bosses Kenny 'Keke' Ogungbe, and Dayo 'D1' Adeneye who had just floated their record label Kennis Music, The Remedies scored the first urban hit of our generation, and opened the doors for other acts to come through.

The song 'Shako Mo' is at the starting point of the pop explosion that has now engulfed the country. Today while we celebrate the exploits of Wizkid, D'banj, 2face, Psquare we should not forget the three acts who took the first step. Though they are not the most technically gifted artistes, they were bold enough to try their hands on a style of music that was risky at the time.

Sit back and watch the video 'Shako Mo'. Quick info, the song itself borrows its instrumental from MC Lyte's 'Keep On Keepin' On' featuring Xscape.
