Afrobeat musician talks to Ebro Darden on promotional tour for new album "Black Magic"

The 34-year old is promoting his soon-to-be-released album, "Black Times"

The vocal musician and bandleader visited France’s Radio France International and La Radio Nova where he answered questions and talked about his music, inspirations and his soon-to-be-released studio album, Black Time.

In a post on his personal Instagram account, @shotsdboss, Kuti appreciated the two platforms for having him over. He also thanked Ebro Darden, most popular as a radio host at New York’s Hot 97 and Apple’s Beats1 who he had a conversation with over Skype for the online radio platform.

This day in the tour took him a long 9 hours during which the artiste was apparently impressed by the journalists who took time to talk to him.

Speaking with Ebro about the track "African Dream" off the album, the artiste said, "Back in the motherland, there's too much focus on the American Dream... I feel like we cannot develop ourselves with the American Dream, we have to African dream and that is the dream of community"

“Black Times” is Seun Kuti’s 6th studio album, a follow up to 2016’s "Struggle Sounds".

A call to arms

The album has been described as a “calling to arms for the children of Nigeria to mobilize and take back a world stacked against them”

Seun is the other commercially successful musical son of the late legend Fela Kuti, besides his older brother, Femi Kuti.

The 34-year old has shown a preference for the militant, politically-charged style of his father’s music.

After the latter died in 1997, Seun, then 14, took charge of Egypt 80, the iconic afrobeat band that Fela oversaw.

Quite like Fela, he has been very involved in speaking against and standing up to the government to varying extents.

He was actively involved in the Occupy Nigeria riots, while also expressing his lurid thoughts on social media.

Black Times is to be released on the 2nd of March 2018, under Strut Records.
