The USS Enterprise crew, led by Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine), have been attacked by a powerful unstoppable wave of unknown aliens, who destroy the Enterprise, leaving them stranded on a new planet where they find themselves in conflict with a new ruthless enemy.

Recently, a trailer featuring pop star Rihanna's latest summer single "Sledgehammer" as the soundtrack for "Star Trek Beyond," was released.

The film is scheduled for a July 22, 2016 release, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise.

The new "Star Trek: Beyond" film features helmsman of the USS Enterprise, Hikaru Sulu, played by John Cho as openly gay.

Being the first "Star Trek" gay character, "Beyond" reveals Mr. Sulu as the father of a child with a same-sex partner.
