Now while I am not advocating that Time should drop their 'standards' and add people to the list based on a quota system, I strongly believe that we have credible Nigerians who should have been on that list.
Here's a list of four Nigerians who should have made Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People
1. Wizkid
The Nigerian pop sensation is currently making waves on the international scene having been featured on Drake's song "One Dance", which is currently 13th on Billboard's Hot 100. This makes Wizkid the only Nigerian artist ever to make this chart. Before this though his hit track "Ojuelegba" was remixed by Drake which naturally led to their working together on this song.
That he has 1.6M Instagram followers and 2.3M Twitter followers in a continent where not up to 40% of people are online, shows the kind of influence he has not only in Nigeria but Africa as a whole.
2. John Boyega
The British born Nigerian actor became popular among Nigerians after he played the character Ugwu in “Half of a Yellow Sun”. He also starred as Finn, the first ever black Stormtrooper for the First Order, on the Star Wars franchise.
He has won multiple awards including BAFTARising Star Award and Empire Award'sBest Male Newcomer.
3. Aliko Dangote
Not only is he the richest man in Africa, but he currently employs thousands of people directly and indirectly across Africa. He has cement and sugar factories scattered across the continent in countries such as Benin, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania, and Zambia, and is currently building refineries across the continent.
He is in my opinion, the most influential African business man currently. Did I mention that he is the richest man in Africa.
4. Muhammadu Buhari
He is the President of the most populous black nation in the world, if that’s not influence, I don’t know what is. All though he made the previous edition of the Time's 100 Most Influential people's list, I see no reason why he should not be on this current list.
Just after a year in office he has managed to bring Boko Haram to their knees, with the army making more and more gains against the sect daily. They have however not been able to recover the missing Chibok girls yet.
