Garry Shandling dies at age 66

Shandling had been 66 at the time of his death, cause of which is still unknown.

Us Weekly reports that the Los Angeles fire department had responded to a call made from Shandling's home at about 10.40pm this morning.

A source tells TMZ that the stand-up act had appeared healthy, and had been speaking with friends earlier today before he had passed away.

TMZ also reports that the star had not been known to be suffering from any life threatening illness, describing his death as sudden and unexpected.

The cause of Shandling's death is still unknown.

Shandling's comedy career spans 40 years as a celebrated sitcom writer, stand up comdian, actor and producer.

The actor was made famous in the 80's and 90's for starring in The Larry Sanders Show, before starting up his own Emmy-nominated sitcom on Showtime called It’s Garry Shandling’s Show

Shandling had been single and childless at the time of his death.
