8 Canadian companies offering work permit sponsorship opportunities for Nigerians, other foreign workers

• Canada has identified eight Global Hypergrowth Project companies eligible to hire foreign workers under the Innovation Stream.

• The programme allows participating employers to recruit eligible workers through an LMIA-exempt work permit pathway.

• A job offer does not automatically guarantee a Canadian work permit; applicants must still meet IRCC requirements.

• The Innovation Stream pilot has been extended until March 22, 2028.

Canada has identified eight high-growth companies that can hire eligible foreign professionals, including Nigerians, through its Innovation Stream, a work permit pathway that allows qualifying employers to recruit international talent without first obtaining a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). 

The programme is part of Canada's Global Hypergrowth Project (GHP), an initiative designed to help some of the country's fastest-growing technology companies attract highly skilled workers from around the world while supporting innovation and economic growth. The Canadian government has extended the Innovation Stream pilot until March 22, 2028. 

However, prospective applicants should note that a job offer from one of these employers does not automatically guarantee a Canadian work permit. Applicants must still satisfy Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) eligibility requirements, while employers must submit an offer of employment and meet programme conditions before a work permit can be issued. 

Here are the eight companies participating in the programme:

Based in Toronto, Ada Support develops artificial intelligence-powered customer service software used by businesses worldwide. The company offers remote and hybrid roles and provides benefits such as stock options, learning and development funding, parental leave top-ups and home-office support. 

AlayaCare develops cloud-based software for home and community healthcare providers. The company recruits professionals across engineering, product development, customer success and healthcare technology.

CellCarta is a global precision medicine company specialising in laboratory services and biomarker research. It frequently hires scientists, laboratory specialists, software professionals and clinical research experts. 

Clarius designs wireless handheld ultrasound scanners used by healthcare professionals. The company recruits engineers, software developers, product designers and medical technology specialists. 

Headquartered in British Columbia, Clio develops cloud-based legal technology software used by law firms around the world. It regularly hires software engineers, designers, marketers and business professionals.

Duchesnay Pharmaceutical Group focuses on pharmaceutical research, development and manufacturing. Available opportunities span research, regulatory affairs, manufacturing and corporate functions. 

Lightspeed Commerce provides cloud-based commerce platforms for retailers and restaurants globally. The company recruits software engineers, sales professionals, cybersecurity experts and customer support specialists. 

Vive Crop Protection develops agricultural technologies that improve crop protection products. It hires professionals in agricultural science, chemistry, engineering and commercial operations.

According to IRCC, the Innovation Stream is open to foreign nationals who receive a job offer from one of the participating GHP employers in eligible high-skilled occupations classified under TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 of Canada's National Occupational Classification (NOC). Applicants must also possess the education, qualifications and work experience required for the position.

The employer must submit an official offer of employment, pay the required employer compliance fee and provide the successful applicant with an employment offer number needed for the work permit application. Eligible spouses or common-law partners and dependent children may also qualify for accompanying work or study permits under Canadian immigration rules.
