‘My impeachment a huge joke,’ Ondo Deputy Governor says

24 out of 26 state lawmakers impeached Olanusi on Monday, April 27, 2015 after accusing him of gross misconduct.

Ondo State Deputy Governor, Ali Olanusi

Former Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Ali Olanusi has described his impeachment by the state House of Assembly as a huge joke.

Responding through his lawyer, Oluwole Kayode, however, Olanusi described the entire process as illegal due to a pending court order.

“Another action in respect of the same office and the impeachment process is pending in court and will come up on May 7, 2015. I think public office holders and people who are put in positions to defend the Nigerian constitution must be law abiding,” Olanusi said.

“In the light of this disobedience to a court order and the impunity displayed in the course of the impeachment proceedings, the deputy governor is on solid ground. The action is illegal and a huge joke,” he added.

Olanusi is believed to have been impeached due to his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in March.

Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko has already appointed former Commissioner for Agriculture, Lasisi Oluboyo as the state’s new deputy governor.
