Militant group denies reaching ceasefire agreement with FG

The Niger Delta Avengers has denied entering into a ceasefire agreement with the Federal Government.

The group gave the response following news reports that an agreement had been reached.

“The NDA high command never remembers having any agreement on ceasefire with the Nigerian Government,” the group said via Twitter on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.

International news agency, Reuters had reported that the government reached an agreement with various Niger Delta militant groups including the avengers.

“It was very difficult getting the Niger Delta Avengers to the negotiating table but we eventually did through a proxy channel and achieved the truce,” the official said.

The NDA had earlier denied reports that it was negotiating with the government and described persons who attended a peace meeting on its behalf as “political jobbers.”
