20 people have died of Cholera in the Adoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, health officials say.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Health, Sampson Parker on Wednesday, January 14.

Parker also said, via a statement, that about 171 cases of the disease had been recorded since the beginning of an outbreak on January 5.

The commissioner however assured members of the public that the state government would tackle the scourge head on saying that two treatment centres had been established in two of the worst hit communities.

Cholera is usually transmitted to humans via contaminated food or water and can kill within a short period.
