Army rescues 29 women, 25 children held hostage by terror group

Among the freed hostages are 29 women and 25 children.

About 59 people have regained their freedom from the terror group, Boko Haram after the Nigerian military invaded two jihadist camps in the Konduga district of Borno state on Wednesday, July 29, the army said.

Army spokesman, Tukur Gusau told reporters on Thursday, July 30, that offensive against the sect is still ongoing in Konduga, about 35 kilometres southeast of Maiduguri, Borno capital.

Nigeria’s army said Thursday it had set free 59 people held by Boko Haram, among them 29 women and 25 children, amid an ongoing offensive against the Islamist group in the country’s restive northeast.

"During the operation a number of terrorists were killed,” Gusau said.

One of the hostages, Mallam Modu Goni, said a large number of militants had abducted him and several fellow villagers last week, and that he was forced to go “several days without food before the army rescued us yesterday”.
