Netflix is developing a spin-off amid Kevin Spacey controversy

Netflix is developing a "House of Cards" spin-off amid sexual harassment controversy surrounding the show's star, Kevin Spacey.

Few hours after Netflix announced that it was cancelling "House of Cards"after season six, Variety is reporting that the streaming service is developing spin-offs.

According to the report, Netflix is in early stages of developing spin-offs which include a concept around Doug Stamper, the political aide-de-camp played by Michael Kelly in the first five seasons of the political drama.

Eric Roth, who served as an executive producer for four seasons, is in talks to write the script.

Variety also reports that two other spinoff ideas are also being explored, however, writers have not yet been attached to them.

The likely series will take place in the same universe as 'House of Cards," a political thriller which offers a look behind the scenes at the greed and corruption in American politics.

The announcement of the end of "House of Cards" came amid Kevin Spacey's alleged sexual advances toward a 14-year-old actor (Anthony Rapp) in the 1980s.

"House of Cards," which made its debut in 2013, tells the story of a Congressman who works with his equally conniving wife to exact revenge on the people who betrayed him.

The final episodes of the TV series will air in 2018.
