So many movies were released in 2019, the good, the bad, the ugly. From the lot, we have picked the Topmost 10. Note: This list was compiled based on the storyline, character interpretation of roles and the overall acceptance of the movie by viewers and critics Here are the top 10 Nollywood movies of 2019. 10. Baby Steps: The movie produced and directed by Willis Ikedum deserves its place on this list for having relatable themes and doing a fine job of combining fiction and reality to great effect. The cast that includes Enyinna Nwigwe, Bimbo Akintola, Segun Arinze, and Mudiaga Ogheneovo all did a great job. Overall, Baby Steps was a good movie. Critics and viewers loved it, directing, acting and post-production were also on point. 9. Cold Feet: Talk about one of the movies that made 2019 amazing and there’s no way you’ll leave this one out! Aside from bringing back our faves, Jim Iyke and Joselyn Dumas, to star alongside Beverly Naya and Enyinna Nwigwe; Cold Feet is an interesting film with a great storyline. It revolves around two ex-lovers, who met again while being married to different spouses. Joselyn Dumas and Enyinna Nwigwe gave incredible performances, Jim Iyke and Beverly also gave prime performances. Overall, it is a great movie and has been rightly accepted by critics and viewers. 8. Joba: 'Joba' is a film produced by Biodun Stephen, and covers itself in glory. From the wonderful character interpretation by Blossom Chukwujekwu and Enado Odigie to Stephen’s beautiful direction, Joba gets it right on so many levels. The movie is centered around a loving couple whose faith was tested due to their inability to have kids during the first few years of their marriage. A faith-based movie well told! 7. Nimbe: Tope Alake brought his A-game on this one. Nimbe addressed social vices associated with drug abuse. Stars like Chimezie Imo, Toyin Abraham, Rachael Okonkwo, and Odunlade Adekola all gave life to their characters. 6. Love is war : Definitely one of Omoni Oboli’s best films. ‘Love is War’ takes us through the life a couple united by love but divided by their political ambitions. Omoni and Richard Mofe Damijo who played Mr. and Mrs. Philips nailed their character representation. 5. Coming from Insanity : Based on a true-life story, ‘Coming from Insanity’ walks us through the life of ‘Kossi the Bear’, a notorious currency counterfeiter with genius-level intelligence. The movie features top actors like Wole Ojo, Dakore Akande, Damilola Adegbite, Tina Mba among others. The role interpretation, camera angles, post-production and quality of picture gives this film an edge and puts it in the category of the best movies released in 2019. 4. Code Wilo: The movie directed by Mike-Steve Adeleye and produced by Hauwa Allahbura tells the story of a powerful South-South politician in Nigeria, his son, daughter and an enemy within. The evident work put into the entire project up until post-production by Mike Steve are some of the attributes that make the film stand out. ‘Code Wilo’ is definitely a 2019 hit. 3. The Set Up : The caliber of the cast and crew involved in making the movie, made it a sellable project. The film reunites Tina Mba, Dakore Akande, Adesua Etomi-Wellington and Joke Silva. You know what to expect when A-listers gather together, definitely a blockbuster! The martial arts action and good use of lights on the project are equally commendable. Niyi Akinmolayan did a great job! 2. 4th Republic: For a political thriller, ‘4th Republic’ is a brilliant attempt that paid off. It documents Nigeria’s political and electoral system in the last two decades. While the writers exploited a tight screenplay that is relatable, Ishayo Bako brought the words to live void of distraction, direct, and succinctly clear. After 10 mins, viewers were hooked on the 120mins long film. It undoubtedly sits on the list of best movies for 2019. 1. Living in Bondage: Breaking Free Surely deserves the number 1 spot. From the opening montage that sees Obinna Omego (played by Enyinna Nwigwe) driving a young girl to a thick forest to behead her, ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free keeps the viewers mind racing back to the events that made the 1992 blockbuster a hit. The suspense-filled film attests to Ramsey Noah’s directorial skill. The picture quality and post-production synced with the directorial and acting credits to make it the best film out of Nollywood in 2019. Which of these movies have you seen?
