LADIES, HERE ARE 7 REASONS WHY YOU MAY BE HAVING IRREGULAR MENSTRUATION Studies have shown that about 30% of women experience irregular periods at some point in life. Most women often think about pregnancies when they experience this, however, there are many other reasons why menstrual irregularities occur. Here are 7 of them: 1. Alcohol Excessive intake of Alcohol can cause damages to the liver as well as affecting period- normalizing hormones. 2. Weight gain/loss One common reason for a late or missing period is the food you eat. If you're eating a diet that's rich in unhealthy carbs or if you've gained weight, your body will produce varying levels of certain hormones, shifting when you ovulate. The same goes for women as they lose weight. 3. Birth control pills It takes months for the body to get used to hormones birth control pills release and this affects menstrual flow. Birth control pills can actually make your periods lighter, or cause you to miss periods. 4. Too much exercise In athletes, intense training and quick weight loss can affect period because exercise affects the menstrual cycle by elevating the metabolism. Metabolism is responsible for sustaining chemical reactions in the body like menstruation. 5. Stress Stress is the most common cause of irregular periods. Cortisol, the stress hormone, has a direct impact on how much sex hormones: estrogen and progesterone are produced by the body. 6. Infections Any infection ranging from STDs, STIs, yeast infections, as well as illnesses, such as thyroid disorders, can cause irregular periods. 7. Polycystic ovary syndrome Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a medical condition that causes tiny follicles to form in the ovaries which interfere with regular ovulation.
