Instagram has joined other social messaging apps in the fight against false and misleading information about coronavirus. The facebook-owned app has started taking down all coronavirus related information not shared by health organisations from its recommendations and 'Explore' option. Now, when users search for coronavirus in the explore option, they only see information on the virus from reputable sources and pages like the World Health Organization, United Nations Children’s Fund, among others. Instagram says it is 'working quickly to make this available globally over the coming weeks.' It also said that content in ‘Feed’ and ‘Stories’ that have been rated false will be downgraded with their algorithm. 'We will also start to downrank content in feed and Stories that has been rated false by third-party-fact checkers,' - Instagram Last week, Twitter also barred users from posting misleading information about coronavirus. Earlier in the month, Facebook said it would provide free advertisements to the World Health Organization (WHO) as it seeks to ensure users are not misinformed about the virus, its risks and how to react to it.
