Tillerson also said a report on Chad’s progress was being prepared in Washington and would be reviewed by President Trump next month.

The visit of the U.S. Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson to Chad on Monday, March 12, 2018 may see President Donald Trump lifting the travel ban on Chad.

During Tillerson’s meeting with President Idriss Deby, Tillerson said with Chad’s important steps to strengthen control over its security and passports, Washington was considering lifting the travel ban on Chad.

“These steps I think are going to allow us to begin to normalise the travel relationship with Chad,” Tillerson said after his meeting.

The US envoy also noted that the consideration of the US government to lift the travel ban on Chad is as a result of the country’s importance as a key ally in the fight against Islamist militant groups in West Africa.

He also said a report on Chad’s progress was being prepared in Washington and would be reviewed by President Trump next month.

“We have to wait for the final report,” Tillerson also added.
