A mass shooting in Thousand Oaks, California that has left at least 13 people dead is the 15th-deadliest shooting in US history, and the gunman only used a single handgun.
"Assault rifles get all the attention but certainly a handgun in the hand of the right person can certainly wreak a lot of damage, especially at close range."
The LA Times reported that the gunman used a .45 handgun and a smoke device.

Dean described the Thousand Oaks shooting as the worst thing he had seen in his decades in law enforcement: "This is by far the most horrific thing that I’ve seen in my 41 years."An unknown number of people were injured in the attack, but police place the number as likely between 10 and 15.
