'Lead suspect' behind attack killed

The lead suspect in the Bardo Museum attack, Tunisia has been killed, Al Jazeera reports.

Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid said that Khaled Chaieb was one of 9 suspects killed in an operation in Gafsa, near the Algerian border.

According to him:

"The Gafsa operation was crowned with great success. It is a delicate operation implemented for the first time since the start of the fight against terrorism"

Also known as Luqman Abu Saqr, Chaieb, was suspected of leading or helping to lead the March 18 attack on the National Bardo Museum which left 22 people; mostly foreigner, dead.

Chaieb, who is an Algerian, and his group, the Okba Ibn Nafaa Brigade, had been accused of masterminding the Bardo Museum attack, despite a claim of responsibility from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.

Meanwhile thousands of Tunisians marched on the streets of Tunis to denounce violence with key world leaders like French President Francois Hollande, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas attending the march.
