Shiite sect members hold protest over detention of their leader

Fauziya Saidu, one of the protesters who claimed that they were heading to Abuja, said the protesters will remain in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) until El-Zakzaky is released.

 

Punch reports that the protesters defied the police and marched across the Muhammadu Buhari Way.

The Shiite members while holding their protest, gave out fliers to people as they moved across the city.

Fauziya Saidu, one of the protesters who claimed that they were heading to Abuja, said the protesters will remain in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) until El-Zakzaky is released.

She said “Nothing can stop us on our way to Abuja. We started trekking from Zaria since yesterday (Tuesday) and some military personnel were taking our photographs.”

Commenting on the development, the Kaduna state police  Public Relations Officer, Aliyu Usman, said “We did not know they were protesting. They did not take permission from us.”

A representative of the protesters, Abdullahi Mohammed, said they want the Federal Government to release El-Zakzaky, so he can get proper medical treatment.
