Court refuses to stop Senate President’s trial

The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to stop the ongoing trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

Saraki had urged the court to grant him an order of interim injunction halting the trial, according to Punch.

However, in refusing the order, presiding judge, Justice Abdulkadir Abdul-Kafarati ordered the defendants to appear before the court on Friday, November 20, 2015, to give reasons why Saraki’s request should not be granted.

The defendants to the fresh suit are Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent  Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, and the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase.

Others are the Code of Conduct  Bureau, the CCT; the CCT chairman, Mr. Ataedzeagu Adza, CCB chairman, Mr. Sam Saba; Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Diri, and a Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr. Muslim Hassan.

Saraki is being tried by the CCT on allegations of asset declaration fraud.
