‘Senators are making sacrifices too,’ Saraki’s aide says [VIDEO]

Omishore said further that the cars were purchased for official purposes but said that the legislators could have done a better job in explaining the situation to citizens.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Omishore made the comment when questioned on whether Saraki’s decision to purchase expensive cars despite the economic crisis could be viewed as insensitive.

Saraki attracted controversy in February after taking delivery of the cars, said to be worth N330 million.

The House of Representatives was also criticized for purchasing vehicles worth N3.6 billion despite the recession.

“The prices you made mention of, I can’t say for a fact that they’re right,” Omishore said during an appearance on Frankly Speaking With Jola Sotubo.

“…I believe the legislature agrees as well that we all need to tighten our belts. We all need to make sacrifices and that’s happening,” he said.

“It’s just that we need to do a better job explaining to Nigerians that “…we’re not just asking you to make sacrifices, we are making sacrifices ourselves.” We in the media in the National Assembly, we’ll do a better job explaining to Nigerians,” he added.

Omishore however declined to speak on a supposed cabal which is said to have hijacked President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.

The claim was first made by Saraki, who said in June, that a government had emerged within Buhari’s government.

Saraki’s comment was supported in October by First Lady, Aisha Buhari during a BBC interview.

President Buhari however dismissed his wife’s claim saying she belongs in the kitchen, living room and other room and not in politics.
