"Junk journalism," Senator slams Sahara Reporters over his alleged misconduct

It was reported Melaye had fuelled a move to impeach Buhari and threatened to beat up Senator Remi Tinubu, wife of APC leader, Bola Tinubu.

The publication had on Tuesday, July 13, reported that Melaye had fuelled a move to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari and that when he was opposed by a fellow senator, Remi Tinubu, wife of APC leader, Bola Tinubu, he threatened to impregnate and beat her.

Melaye, who represents Kogi West constituency, was said to have made the utterances during the Tuesday session, the unruly behaviour and misconduct he has since denied.

He reacted to the report via Twitter, in which after he released a press statement.

"It is now obvious that Sahara Reporters lies, blackmail and propaganda is now limited edition and shameless," he wrote on the micro-blogging site, describing the publication as practicing "junk journalism."

The alleged impeachment move against the President was said to have been incensed by the proposed forgery trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.
