Terrorists burn down village near Chibok

The attack comes one week after Boko Haram released 21 Chibok girls following negotiations with the Nigerian government.

Ayodele predicts that Boko Haram will come up with a new strategy

The terrorists are said to have set fire to Goptari, which is 10 kilometres from Chibok, late on Tuesday, October 18, according to AFP.

“They attacked the village around 8:00 pm (1900GMT), firing heavy guns which made people flee into the bush,” Samson Bulus, a resident of nearby Kautikeri village, told AFP.

“The Boko Haram raiders looted homes and shops, taking along food supplies and livestock before burning the entire village,” he added.

“The Boko Haram fighters overpowered the soldiers and seized a van with a machine gun mounted on the deck from the soldiers,” another resident, Luka Damina said.

The attack comes one week after Boko Haram released 21 Chibok girls from captivity following negotiations with the Nigerian government which were brokered by the Swiss government.

The Nigerians government has also said that talks are on to secure the release of 83 more girls.

It has however denied that the girls are being swapped for terrorists as demanded by Boko Haram in August.
