Cameroonian soldiers ‘kill 70 Nigerians’ while chasing terrorists

Cameroonian soldiers had earlier also been accused of killing 150 innocents while chasing terrorists into Nigerian territory in November.

According to reports, Cameroonian soldiers have killed 70 Nigerian civilians during an anti-Boko Haram operation in Borno State.

The incident is said to have occurred in the Gwoza area of the state on Sunday, December 20, 2015, The Associated Press reports.

“We didn't know what was going on but the Cameroonian troops suddenly appeared and began to ask us for Boko Haram terrorists," Muhammed Abba, a resident of the village said.

“Before we could say a word, they started firing. That scared most of us and we began to run,” he added.

The reports have also been confirmed by civilian vigilante spokesperson, Abbas Gava.

“They [The villagers] said the soldiers were in hot pursuit of the Boko Haram terrorists who ran into Kirawa-Jimni. The soldiers did not waste time upon arrival as they immediately opened fire on the villagers,” he said.

The neighbouring country has suffered attacks from Boko Haram largely due to its expansive border with Nigeria and is expected to contribute troops to a multinational force against the sect which will be headquartered in Chad.
