Fine Boy Swag (FBS) Entertainment represented by Muhammad Nura, came public, making a claim that Neato C defrauded them of a certain amount of money. They sent out a statement to media houses detailing the transaction between the singer, Naeto C and themselves. The singer was scheduled to perform at a show in July 2012 in Abuja and he agreed as stated by the entertainment label. A sum of N400,000 exchanged hands and documents were signed to that effect.
However, the singer was not available to perform and subsequently didn't think to refund the money paid to him. Storm Records, the label that manages Naeto C's interests have said that they do not know anything about the so called deal with FBS Entertainment. They have threatned to go to court if FBS persists with their allegations.
According to Storm Records «A show promoter is liable to forfeit any money deposited to book an artiste for a particular date if the promoter fails to complete payment before the stipulated time for the performance and the artiste is permitted to walk away from the arrangement’. This is standard practice in entertainment all over the world because artiste will decline all other approaches by prospective clients once a party makes a commitment by way of an initial deposit».
Still FBS are not backing down from their allegations that the star defrauded them of their money.
Though there is still alot of threats of court orders and defraud claims flying about, we have to take a good look at this. Why would Naeto C want to defraud anyone? If he wasn't going to perform, why did he collect the money? If indeed what storm record says about incomplete payment before the day of event, then what does this mean for FBS Entertainment? Is is proper that an artist walk away with the initial payment that was made to him following a failure to pay up the balance for the show???
It would seem that this is becoming a trend with Nigerian artists as the E.M.E crew were involved in a similar case a few months ago, precisely August. They were billed to perform in a show in California but didn't show up too. The case died a natural death with only an apology letter to show for it. Will this be the case for FBS Entertainment and Naeto C??? We can only wait and see what happens.
