Former Nigerian international Julius Aghahowa is confident that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will pick a first-leg victory over the Black Stars of Ghana.
The Super Eagles face their Ghanaian counterparts on Friday for the first leg of their Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with the victors over two legs representing Africa at the Mundial.
The Black Stars of Ghana host the first leg at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi at 8:30pm Nigerian time with the return leg scheduled for Tuesday, March 29 at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
Ghana won't just let us defeat them at home - Julius Aghahowa
While featuring on ChannelsTV on Friday morning, Aghahowa said he believes Nigeria can pick up a victory at Ghana to stand them in good stead for qualification over both legs.
The former Wigan Athletic striker warned that Ghana would not roll over easily due to the rivalry between both countries and the fact the Black Stars would be playing in front of their home fans.
Aghahowa said: "The rivalry between the two sides has been there. The Super Eagles should not forget that Ghana won't let them come to their home and defeat them.
"They should expect difficulty there but at the end of the day we want to win, that's the most important thing."
Aghahowa predicts 1-0 or 2-0 for Super Eagles against Ghana
However, Aghahowa boldly predicted that the Super Eagles should overcome their hosts by one or two goals.
"I expect the Super Eagles to win, if you look at the players man for man and the form, we have more players in different positions," Aghahowa enthused.
"We are going to win by a goal or two in Ghana and then when we come back we'll qualify."
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will play in front of a daunting 40,000 fans at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi after CAF granted Ghana permission to fill the stadium to the brim.
Ahead of the match, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa stated that the rivalry for the match goes beyond football to other areas like music, movies, and politics.
