Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum has provided an update on the injury sustained by Super Falcons star Asisat Oshoala in Nigeria's opening group match at the ongoing CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

Oshoala limped off in the 82nd minute as the Super Falcons of Nigeria faced off with the Banyana Banyana of South Africa on Monday evening at the ongoing WAFCON 2022. 

The West Africans would go on to lose 2-1 at the hands of their opponents with Oshoala firing blanks on the day.

Oshoala to return soon - Waldrum optimistic

According to sports journalist Oluwatobi Adepoju, Waldrum stated his optimism that the FC Barcelona star would be back in action soon, hoping that the injury is a minor one.

Waldrum said: "I think she will be fine, the doctors will check her and I am hopeful for a good update."

Oshoala picks up injury against Banyana Banyana

Oshoala reportedly suffered a knock in the first half against the Banyana Banyana while the game was still goalless but chose to play on for the Super Falcons till the second half.

The Super Falcons then fell behind to two quick second-half goals in the 61st and 63rd minutes. Oshoala was finally substituted in the 82nd minute with the Spanish top-flight top scorer failing to find the back of the net up to that point.

The Super Falcons are next in action against Botswana on Thursday, July 7 before facing Burundi on Sunday, July 10 as they hope to secure quarterfinal qualification from Group C of the ongoing WAFCON.
