E-commerce giant acquires yet another start-up

From all indications it seems Rocket Internet is not relenting in its startup acquisition drive with the acquisition of yet another startup.

The Volo Team.

Just a few days after acquiring European restaurant delivery service Take Eat Easy, ‘startup king and e-commerce giant Rocket Internet has also acquired Germany’s Volo, a startup  offering service the exact same range as Take Eat Easy.

Just like Take Eat Easy, and other competitors in the same spectrum, Volo also lets you order from restaurants that don’t traditionally offer delivery service.

This differentiates it from some of Rocket’s other purchases which operate on a strictly pure marketlace model that depends on restaurants to make deliveries.

Volo was originally launched in Munich in October, 2014 but has recently expanded to other German cities like Berlin, Frankfurt with Hamburg, Cologne and Dusseldorf up next. It is also making very aggressive international plans- it plans to expand to about 9 countries apparently- including Spain, Sweden and Italy.

Rocket however to comment on details of the acquisition with regards to its expansion plans and details of the deal have also remained a closely guarded secret.

“Together with the founders of Volo, we have devised an exit strategy and are very proud to have implemented this so successfully,” says GaranGoodman, Managing Director of Wayra Deutschland, in a statement. “The team at Volo have made some fantastic achievements. We are more than impressed by the potential for success presented by the teams currently at the Academy.”

Whatever Rockets strategy is, to conquer the market, there is no denying that it sees online food delivery as a veritable opportunity for growth.
