Update: Normalcy returns to social media network's user platforms

#FacebookDown was the trend on Twitter yesterday after the popular social network experienced hours of intermittent glitches in its services

Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerberg.

The popular social networking site, Facebook, was down at intervals yesterday with users all over the world complaining of various degrees of technical difficulties.

This is not the first time Facebook has experienced temporary service failures like this even though it’s been able to maintain the functionality of its services in recent months. Yesterday however, the site was down for several hours at a stretch and users were unable to make regular use of the site both on the web and on its mobile application platform.

Numerous users worldwide, especially in eastern Europe, complained of inability to log into their accounts, while users already on the site when it experienced the series of crashes reported frozen screens and inability to navigate the site’s user interface.

Facebook didn’t make any comments or give a reason for this meltdown but probably took steps to fix it because the site returned to normal functionality late yesterday. After the Twitter hashtag #FacebookDown trended for hours yesterday, users later gave reports of the site’s glitches being over and regular usage of the social media network restored.
