American abducted in Kogi regains freedom

Reverend Sortor was taken from the Hope Academy compound in the Emiworo area of the state on Monday, February 23.

Phyllis Sortor, the American missionary who was abducted by unidentified gunmen in Kogi State, has been freed by her captors.

She was released into the care of authorities and Free Methodist church leaders on the evening of Friday, March 6.

Her release was confirmed via a statement on the Facebook page of the Free Methodist Church, which she worked for.

Sortor’s abductors demanded a N30 million ransom but according to the state Commissioner of Police, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, no ransom was paid to secure her release.
