Last night, Kendrick Lamar reminded everybody why he's referred to as King Kendrick. The Compton rapper dropped his latest single, "Humble," set to be released on his forthcoming project, which will likely drop on April 7.
Accompanying the song was a stirring and frenetic music video that shows Kendrick doing things like donning holy garb, shooting hundreds out of a money gun, and hanging at a hair salon.
As some viewers noted, though, Kendrick was doing more than just re-asserting himself as one of the most formidable artists in music today.
He was also promoting a more body positive image than you normally see in music videos or on social media. Watch from the 1:44 mark to 1:54 to see what they're talking about.
Bolstering their observation are the lyrics Kendrick raps in this section:
I'm so fuckin' sick and tired of the Photoshop
Show me somethin' natural like afro on Richard Pryor
Show me somethin' natural like ass with some stretchmarks
In kind, the women of Twitter showed their appreciation for Kendrick's supportive stance.
This isn't the only reason you should be looking forward to Kendrick's next album, but it certainly gives you another reason to root for him.
