Is Idris Elba too rough to play 007? Current James Bond author, Anthony Horowitz, thinks so.
Anthony Horowitz, whose Trigger Mortis recently hit shelves, has one or two things to say about Idris Elba playing James Bond.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, the author stated that Elba is too 'rough' and 'street' to play 007.
“Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better,” Horowitz says.
“For me, Idris Elba is a bit too rough to play the part. It’s not a colour issue. I think he is probably a bit too ‘street’ for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah," he added.
According to him, he’d prefer to see a black British actor like Adrian Lester play the part
From the above statement, Horowitz thinks the The Golden Globe-winning actor, who play a drug boss in the HBO series 'The Wire,' and who has played different characters, including the heroic Nelson Mandela, isn't worth being the first black 007.
Fans of Elba, and the internet are not happy with Horowitz 'racist' comment;
Elba has long been fans favourite black choice to play James Bond.
In 2014, a hacked Sony email revealed the company thought the actor “should be the next Bond”.
Elba responded via Twitter, asking "Isn't 007 supposed to be handsome? “glad you think I’ve got a shot!”
Daniel Craig is currently filming the forthcoming Bond film 'Spectre,' which hits theatres November 26, 2015.
