Xiaomi 15 Review: This Might Be Android’s Best Camera Setup Yet

With a 14% market share in the first quarter of 2025, Xiaomi is one of the most popular phone brands in the world. Ranking third and selling over 41.8 million units, this can be credited to the amazing phones they deliver. At the top of this innovation is their flagship phones, with the Xiaomi 15 being one of them. Launched in October 2024, the Xiaomi 15 is a sleek phone with premium features (Leica-tuned cameras, great display, and a compact body) that should outperform your expectations.

Design & Durability

First off, the Xiaomi 15 feels as premium as it looks. It measures 152.3 × 71.2 × 8.1 mm and weighs 189–192 g, ensuring that one-handed use should be easy. The glass back is frosted. It comes with the first generation of Xiaomi Shield Glass, also on the Xiaomi 14 series. This makes the screen less durable than the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, which has a newer screen but remains on par with the previous phones. It also has an IP68 rating that helps against dust and water splashes and even dips up to 1.5m. The squared-off camera bump houses three equally sized lenses.

Tech Radar says,

The phone is built like a luxurious tank. It’s satisfyingly heavy and made of solid materials, and the construction feels durable and well-considered. It’s much smoother in the hand than the Galaxy S25 but not as pebbly as the iPhone 16, and I think it feels nicer than both.

It is available in Black, White, Green, and Liquid Silver; the matte finish resists fingerprints and feels grippy without being slippery.

Display

The 6.36″ CrystalRes LTPO AMOLED display clocks in at 2670 × 1200 px (~460 ppi) and adapts its refresh rate from 1 Hz (for static content) to 120 Hz. It peaks at 3,200 nits, so even under the mid-day sunlight, you won’t need to squint to see. This display spec is finished with Dolby Vision, HDR10+ support, TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light, and flicker-free certification; in other words, the display panel is both vivid and safe for marathon viewing sessions. Lastly, the display has an Ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Performance & Benchmarks

The Xiaomi 15 has the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset(3 nm) paired with the Adreno 830 GPU. The RAM and storage are 12GB + 256GB and 12GB + 512 GB. For tests and benchmarks, it hits 2.53 million on AnTuTu and 9,419 on GeekBench 6. Now, what does this mean for real life and everyday activity? Apps open instantly, multitasking is seamless, and games like Genshin run smoothly.

According to GSM Arena,

Neither the 16GB RAM variant nor the 1TB storage variant is coming to global markets for now.

Cameras

The Xiaomi 15 comes with three 50 MP sensors co-developed with Leica on the back that deliver consistently pleasing results:

• Main (23 mm, f/1.62) with OIS for sharp daylight and night shots.

• The telephoto (60 mm, f/2.0) offers 2.6× optical zoom without major quality loss.

• Ultra-wide (14 mm, f/2.2) with a 115° field of view.

Tom’s Guide praises the “true-to-life” colors and wide dynamic range, though telephoto can get noisy in low light. TechRadar calls the Leica integration “knockout,” applauding consistency across all three lenses.

Battery & Charging

With a 5,240 mAh cell, you can easily go through a full day of heavy use—social media, streaming, and gaming. When your battery runs low, 90 Watts of wired charging is available, with 50 Watts of wireless. You also get 10 Watts of reverse wireless to share power with earbuds or a friend’s phone.

HyperOS 2.0 & Updates

On board is Android 15 with Xiaomi’s HyperOS 2. HyperOS 2, based on Android 15, stays lightweight, with only a sprinkling of Xiaomi apps you can uninstall if you please. The phone also comes with some key AI highlights:

• AI Writing & Speech Recognition are used to compose emails or transcribe lectures.

• AI Interpreter to translate text, voice, or images in real-time.

• Circle to Search (Google) for instant context—highlight a phrase, and search results pop up instantly.

If you’re looking for a more Apple-ified take on Android, then HyperOS 2 is certainly the software to check out. While the software and UI are still clearly Android-based, a few little touches are reminiscent of iOS.

Update promise: 4 major Android upgrades + 6 years of security patches. This is not quite Google’s seven-year support, but it is still above average.
