The Nigeria Copyright Commission (NCC) along with the Nigerian Police have arrested eight person in Benin, the Edo state capital for allegedly selling pirated works.

During the raid, the Commission also confiscated eight bags of audiovisual products from the suspects.
Zonal head of operations, Mr. Joseph Ajang, told journalists that the suspects were arrested during the agency’s routine raid of hotspots on Sapele road, Ramat Park, and Siluko road, as part of measures to check the spread of piracy in Edo and Delta States.
Ajang also stated that the agency had received numerous petitions from intellectual property owners adding that the operation was in continuation of the nationwide anti-piracy effort by the NCC.
One of the suspects, 25-year old Jonathan Okeke, claimed to have no knowledge that his wares were pirated. However, Ajang said the commission would take inventory of the confiscated goods and prosecute the suspects after it has concluded its investigations.
A few months ago, the NCC also seized works worth N4 million in ilorin in a similar action in the ongoing fight against piracy all over the country.
