Gabriel Gab-Umoden, ex-VP of marketing at Konga, has launched a triple pay service called Legend in what seems to be an attempt to take on Netflix and iROKO TV locally in Nigeria.

Legend will bundle premium TV content, Internet and Voice Services over a high-speed fiber optic data connection wired to your home or office.

According to a Techmoran report, Legend already has some offerings in the pipeline. It will have Legend Triple Play, Legend Dual Packages, Legend Lite, and Legend Zone.

Under all of that will be Legend TV, Legend Voice, and Legend Home, according to the Techmoran report.

Legend will have highlights, Box Office, and Legend Freezone, which will allow users select content for free, revealing an intent to use fremium to lure reluctant users.

“Legend is an exclusive multi-media brand that offers distinctive value to enhance the lifestyle and experience of our customers. Legend offers premium entertainment to your home with a movie theatre experience, unlimited internet and high definition voice calls,” the company says. “With Legend TV, you can enter a world of premium HD entertainment with on demand movies and series where you get to set your own schedule and you can enjoy the latest cinema releases with Legend Box Office.”

There is definitely a demand for the kind of services that Legend hopes to bring to market, but I don't think that demand has ripened yet.

Regardless, Legend believes it can take the fight to Netflix and that in itself, is laudable. The company's plans may be very ambitious right now, especially as there is not very much information on its content acquisition deals and strategies.

There is also the issue of how it will run its fibre-optic cables and which partners it already has on board. From past experience, we have seen that talking a big game in the Nigerian Tech space is one thing, but actually delivering on the premise of services offered is another thing entirely.

Just like you probably are right now, I am very interested to see how Legend fares. I'll keep you posted.
