It's obvious that this new Instagram feature is almost an exact clone of a core Snapchat feature and the photo-sharing platform's CEO Kevin Systrom agrees.

Instagram (read Facebook) is trying to poach goofy, everyday content from Snapchat with a new feature called Instagram stories.

The new feature works exactly like Snapchat Stories, which allows you to post photos and video slideshows that disappear after 24 hours.

However, Instagram stories appear at the top of the old feed so your followers will inevitably see them without you needing to build a new followership on another app.

Over the next few weeks, Instagram Stories will be rolling out globally for iOS and Android.

In a sense, you could call it Snapchat for adults, a way for brands to post more without overloading people's feeds.

It's obvious that this new Instagram feature is almost an exact clone of a core Snapchat feature and the photo-sharing platform's CEO Kevin Systrom agrees.

“They deserve all the credit,” says Systrom. “This isn’t about who invented something. This is about a format, and how you take it to a network and put your own spin on it.”

Facebook, which owns Instagram, has tried to multiple times with standalone apps like Poke, Slingshot and InstagramBolt. Unfortunately, they all failed and were pulled from the app stores.

Facebook also tried to acquire Snapchat for $3 billion a few years ago, but the offered was rejected.
