1 reportedly dead in Abuja as LUTH confirms a case

Meanwhile, a case of Lassa fever has been reportedly confirmed at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Lagos.

 

There are reports that the spread of Lassa Fever has reached Lagos following the tale of the death of a patient in Abuja.

According to a report by Punch Newspaper, a suspected Lassa fever patient had died on Friday evening, Janaury 15, 2016 at the State House Clinic in Abuja.

The patient, a male, who reportedly bled from various parts of his body, was said to have been confirmed dead after two weeks of been sick.

While the deceased remains had been deposited at the SHC morgue, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, was reported to have visited the clinic and directed that blood specimen should be obtained to conduct a full laboratory test to confirm the cause of death.

Following this, the health minister held a meeting with health officials on the Lassa fever outbreak in the country and the measures to curb it which include distribution of Glabarine injections and tablets to states having outbreaks of the disease.

The minister of health had announced the death of the first Lassa fever patient at the National Hospital, Abuja last Wednesday and on the number of fatalities from the disease across the country had risen to 43.
