Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senator Buruji Kashamu

According to reports, Senator Buruji Kashamu has played an instrumental role in saving former President, Olusegun Obasanjo from being poisoned.

Kashamu was reportedly approached by two persons who claimed to be close to Obasanjo and offered to poison him due to his rift with the Senator, according to Vanguard.

The suspects, eventually identified as Peter Uwakala and Victoria Alaegbu, allegedly met with Kashamu in Victoria Island last month and made him the offer.

After the meeting, the Kashamu is said to have reported the incident at the Zone 2 Police Command Station in the Onikan area of the state leading to the arrest of the suspects.

The accused persons were later found to have no connection whatsoever with Obasanjo.

The suspects have reportedly been arraigned before a Magistrate Court in the Igbosere area of the state and were remanded at Kirikiri Prisons until further hearing of the case on July 31, 2015.

The incident was confirmed by Kashamu’s media aide, Austin Oniyokor who said that the Senator’s actions go “a long way to show that despite his political differences on principles with Obasanjo, he (Kashamu ) does not wish him (Obasanjo) ill because he respects the sanctity of human life and also fears God.”

Kashamu also recently withdrew a N20 billion libel case he filed against Obasanjo after the latter called him a drug baron.

The Senator is currently facing extradition to the US for drug charges and has repeatedly alleged that Obasanjo is plotting to abduct him and have him forcefully shipped off to the States.
