Sekibo made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at Abonnema, the headquarters of Akuku-Toru Local Government Council.
He added: ``Our local government is riverine. We intend to acquire boats for those living in the coastal areas of the council.
``It is expensive to travel to the coastal communities in commercial boats and that is why the council wants to intervene.
Sekibo said that the council would also buy buses for its people living upland.
``The aim is to ensure that people do not suffer to get to their homes, places of work and businesses.
``We are still making arrangements and we cannot now state the number of boats or buses to be acquired,’’ he added.
The chairman said the council was collaborating with security agencies to boost security and intelligence gathering.
``My administration is working in synergy with security operatives to check crime in our area. We are working together and we have provided them with logistics.
``We want to ensure the safety of our people as they travel and even when they are at home,’’ he said.
He said that the council had given priority attention to sanitation by ensuring regular clearing of blocked drains and refuse evacuation.
Sekibo said the people had been sensitised on the need to clean their environment to avoid contracting diseases.
