The workshop was organized by an NGO, Policy Consult, in collaboration with International Organisation for Migration (IOM), National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).
The governor, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Alhaji Musa Garba, said the call was necessary because migration was now a global phenomenon.
"The issue of migration is a global phenomenon, hence the need for journalists to promote better management of the issue in Nigeria,'' he said.
He said the workshop was also timely as it would enable journalists be abreast with migration-related issues.
''So, the media should help the government to address the issue and ensure its better management,'' he said.
Earlier, the Director in the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hajiya Amina Faruk, said the Federal Government`s decision to develop the National Migration Policy (NMP) was due to its desire and commitment to protect the welfare of all categories of migrants irrespective of their status.
