Youths from the Southern part of Kaduna State under the auspices of Gumel Youth Development Association Kachia has slammed the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly John Audu over arrest and detention of its leader, Jerry Ghandi.

It was announced by some ward executives in Kwaturu that the Deputy Speaker had been suspended over 'incompetent and anti-party affairs'. The Deputy Speaker, John Audu had told Pulse that he was never suspended adding that those who orchestrated the said impeachment are undergoing investigation by the Police.

But a Statement signed by Sunday Yusuf, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Gumel Youth Development Association Kachia, said rather than intimidating their leaders, the Deputy Speaker John Audu should face his dwindling political career.

“We the peaceful loving people of Gumel were shocked by the actions taken by the Deputy Speaker in addressing his personal and political brouhaha by his ward excos. We condemn in strong terms the arrest and continued detention of Jerry Ghandi the APC Youth Leader of Kachia Local Government Area and registered and active member in the local branch of Gumel Youth Development Association.”

“We want to make it clear that Jerry Ghandi as the Youth Leader can move freely to any of the 12 wards of Kachia local government area to discharge his official duties and responsibilities. As a law maker, we expect the Deputy Speaker to follow due process and the rule of law in seeking justice and redress his political and personal issues. We shall not be intimidated by the use of state machineries to harass and detain the good people of Gumel particularly Jerry Ghandi for more than 24 hours,” the statement said.

According to the group, “We call on the Deputy Speaker to reconcile with his ward excos and deliver dividends of democracy to the people of Kachia. We in Gumel are yet to feel the impact of his official representation of us at the State House of Assembly. We hereby issue a 24 hours notice for the immediate and unconditional release of Jerry Ghandi and others otherwise we shall result to lawful means to seek justice.”
