Police free 2 abducted Lebanese men

Sarki Abi Chmouli and Ibrahim Abi Pherem were taken by a gang of eight gunmen on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the Onuegbum waterside.

Four suspected cultists were caught following a raid by the police.

The police in Bayelsa State have rescued two Lebanese nationals who were abducted by unidentified gunmen in the state.

Sarki Abi Chmouli and Ibrahim Abi Pherem were taken by a gang of eight gunmen on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at the Onuegbum waterside.

The duo were rescued on Thursday, June 25, after police gave hot chase to the attackers.

This was disclosed by the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, Butswat Asinim.

“On 25 June, 2015, at about 1500hrs, the two Lebanese expatriates; Ibrahim Abi Phrem and Sarkis Abi Chmooni, were abducted on the 24 June, 2015 at Ogbia LGA of Bayelsa State,” Asinim said.

“They were abandoned by their abductors at Okodi riverine community in Ogbia LGA, due to the massive manhunt by the Police. They are hale and hearty and they have been reunited with their families,” he added.

The gunmen had killed two policemen, a Sergeant and a Corporal, while kidnapping the foreigners.
